Requirements
- Obsidian desktop app (v1.12+) with CLI enabled
- Python 3.11+ (download)
- macOS, Linux, or Windows
Option A: Download and double-click (easiest)
- Go to Releases
and download the
.dmg file
- Open the DMG
- Double-click
Install.command
- Restart Claude Desktop
That's it. No terminal, no commands.
If macOS says the file can't be opened: right-click Install.command,
select Open, then click Open in the dialog.
Option B: Claude Code Plugin (recommended for Claude Code users)
claude --plugin-dir /path/to/obsidian-connector
Or, once accepted into the official marketplace:
claude plugin install obsidian-connector
After installing, run the setup script to create the Python environment:
bash <plugin-dir>/scripts/setup.sh
This gives you all 62 MCP tools plus 17 skills (/morning, /evening, /idea, /weekly, /sync-vault, /init-vault, /float, /explore, /obsidian-markdown, /obsidian-bases, /json-canvas, /obsidian-cli, /defuddle), with a SessionStart hook that suggests workflows based on time of day.
Note: Plugin mode (.mcp.json) currently uses Unix paths for the Python venv.
On Windows, use the terminal installer (scripts/Install.ps1) instead of plugin mode.
