UK Resume & Cover Letter Generator (web app)

A dynamic web app, also in this repository, that generates a UK-tailored CV and a story-driven cover letter from a job description, your current CV, and optional cover-letter insights. Built with Node.js + Express on the backend and vanilla HTML/CSS/JS on the frontend, powered by Claude Opus 4.7 with adaptive thinking.

Run locally

Inputs

• Company name
• Job role
• Job description
• Current CV (PDF, DOCX, or TXT — parsed server-side)
• Additional cover letter insights (optional)

Outputs

Three textboxes:

• Tailored Resume (markdown) — natural keyword integration, XYZ-formula impact bullets ("Accomplished X as measured by Y, by doing Z"), most-relevant achievements reordered to the top of each role, strict truth (nothing fabricated).
• Cover Letter — four-paragraph story arc: Hook → Substance → Substance → Bridge, plus a confident close that names a specific JD goal. Warm, conversational, no archaic clichés.
• Recruiter's Note — short explanation of the top 3 strategic changes the model made to align the candidate's profile with the JD.

The system prompt is cached (5-minute TTL) so repeat generations run cheaper. Resumes are parsed in memory and never written to disk.

• Claude Code CLI
• Claude in Chrome MCP server for authenticated browser sessions (LinkedIn)
• Playwright MCP server for form filling, file uploads, and iframe interaction

Usage

First Time Setup

1. Invoke the skill:

   /job-apply
   

2. Provide your resume path when prompted:

   ~/Documents/resume.pdf
   

3. Review and confirm extracted profile information

Applying to Jobs

Once your profile is set up:

1. Invoke the skill:

   /job-apply
   

2. Provide a job URL:

   https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/123456789
   

3. Watch as Claude fills out the application

4. Review the summary and confirm submission

Searching for Jobs

Use /job-search to find jobs where you have an advantage:

1. Invoke the skill:

   /job-search
   

2. Claude will suggest keywords based on your resume:
