A Claude Code plugin that provides a skill for setting up Language Server Protocol (LSP) support in Claude Code.

What it does

The /lsp-setup skill walks Claude through the full process of adding LSP support for any programming language:

1. Checks current state — existing plugins, enabled LSPs, installed binaries
2. Installs the language server binary — using the best tool for each language (uv, npm, brew, etc.)
3. Configures the Claude Code plugin — enables the plugin, sets ENABLE_LSP_TOOL=1
4. Builds a custom plugin if none exists in the official marketplace — creates the lspServers config, adds to a local marketplace fork
5. Submits to the official marketplace — points to the Anthropic submission form

Installation

Usage

/lsp-setup python
/lsp-setup clojure
/lsp-setup rust
/lsp-setup           # will ask which language

Supported languages

The skill has built-in knowledge for: Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Clojure, Go, Rust, Lua, C/C++, C#, Java, PHP, Kotlin, and Swift.

For any other language, it will search for the appropriate language server and build a custom plugin.

Why this exists

Setting up LSP in Claude Code involves several non-obvious steps:

• The ENABLE_LSP_TOOL environment variable must be set (not well-documented)
• Some languages have no official plugin yet and need a custom one built
• Installation methods vary by language and platform (uv vs npm vs brew)
• Claude Code's sandbox can block global package installs
• Custom plugins need specific lspServers JSON config with correct language IDs

This skill encodes all that knowledge so you don't have to rediscover it.
