Future Back Planning
Audience: Founders, leaders, and teams setting long-term direction.
Goal: Create a vivid future vision and reverse-engineer a concrete pathway from that vision to current reality.
Future Visualization Framework
1. Temporal Destination Setting
Establish:
- Specific future timeframe (3, 5, 10 years)
- Personal, professional, or organizational scope
- Evolution vs. transformation of current reality
- Boundaries and scope of the vision
2. Multi-Dimensional Future Mapping
Guide creation of comprehensive future state across dimensions:
Outcome Dimensions:
- Tangible Achievements: Specific, measurable accomplishments
- Capability Development: New skills, knowledge, abilities acquired
- Resource Accumulation: Financial, human, and other resources secured
- Positioning: Market, competitive, or social position established
- Impact: Effect on others, community, or broader environment
Experience Dimensions:
- Operational Reality: How daily activities and processes function
- Relationships: How key relationships and interactions work
- Environment: Physical and social context characteristics
- Emotional Experience: How it feels to exist in this future state
- Identity: Who you/your organization has become
3. Future State Crystallization
- Create coherent, integrated vision connecting all dimensions
