Quick Reference

Target: 100-200 lines maximum (Claude Code system prompt already has ~50 instructions)

Analysis Workflow

Phase 1: Codebase Discovery

1. Detect project type (package.json, requirements.txt, Cargo.toml, go.mod)
2. Map directory structure and key locations
3. Identify frameworks, test setup, and tooling

Phase 2: CLAUDE.md Assessment

1. Check existence and location(s)
2. Count lines (compare to 100-200 target)
3. Identify sections present
4. Scan for anti-patterns (see references/anti-patterns.md)
5. Check for nested CLAUDE.md files

Phase 3: Gap Analysis

1. Missing essential sections
2. Excessive or redundant content
3. Progressive disclosure opportunities
4. Tool enforcement opportunities

Phase 4: Generate Report

1. Score effectiveness (1-10)
2. List strengths and issues with line references
3. Prioritize recommendations by impact
4. Identify quick wins (<5 min fixes)
5. Optionally draft optimized CLAUDE.md

Essential CLAUDE.md Sections

1. Project Overview (2-3 sentences)
2. Directory Structure (compact tree)
3. Development Commands (bulleted)
4. Key Conventions (non-obvious only)
5. Resource Pointers (reference, don't embed)

1. Read the reference files in references/ to load the full knowledge base
2. Explore the project to understand structure and tech stack
3. Find all CLAUDE.md files (root and nested)
4. Analyze against best practices from the knowledge base
5. Generate comprehensive report using the output format
6. Offer to create optimized version if requested
