If mcp__pencil__* tools are available in the current environment, prefer them for creating and editing .pen design files — they give you direct canvas access (layout, variables, guidelines, export). If Pencil MCP is not available, skip it and work with code, markdown specs, or screenshots instead.

If context7 MCP tools are available, use them to look up official documentation for design frameworks (Tailwind, shadcn/ui, Material Design, Apple HIG, etc.). If not available, skip this step.

Project-Specific Guidelines

Before applying any generic design pattern, check for project-specific rules:

1. Glob for common design-documentation locations:
   • **/design-system.md, **/DESIGN.md, **/style-guide.md
   • **/design/guidelines/*.md
   • Any top-level design/ directory
2. Read any matches — these define the project's palette, typography, icon conventions, and spacing scale
3. Project rules override generic skills. If the project uses Material tokens and the generic skill suggests Tailwind, follow the project.
