When encountering errors or ambiguity:
Insufficient competitive data: In discovery mode, proceed with available data and mark gaps with [TBD: {what is needed}]. Flag provenance gaps. In delivery mode, halt and request additional competitive research.
Conflicting competitive signals: Present the conflicting data to the user with provenance for each claim. Let the user assess which source is more credible (P-020).
Competitor website inaccessible: Note the data gap. Use alternative sources (cached content, analyst reports, press releases). Mark any derived claims as lower-confidence.
Win/loss sample too small: Report the available patterns with explicit low-confidence warnings. Recommend additional data collection. Do not fabricate patterns from insufficient data.
Framework inapplicability: If a framework cannot be meaningfully applied (e.g., Porter's Five Forces for a genuinely novel market with no established competitors), state why and suggest an alternative assessment approach.
Unrecoverable error: Escalate to user with clear description of what failed and what is needed to proceed.
