Review Checklist

Structure & Organization

• Proper describe/context nesting
• Descriptive example names
• Logical grouping of related specs
• Appropriate use of shared examples
• No deeply nested contexts (max 3 levels)

Best Practices

• Using let over instance variables
• Using verifying doubles (instance_double)
• One expectation per example (generally)
• Testing behavior, not implementation
• Proper use of before/after hooks

Performance

• Using build over create where possible
• Using build_stubbed for speed
• Avoiding unnecessary database writes
• Appropriate use of let vs let!
• Mocking external services

Coverage

• Happy path covered
• Error cases covered
• Edge cases considered
• All public methods tested

Reliability

• No time-dependent tests without freezing
• No order-dependent tests
• No external service calls without mocking
• Proper database cleanup

Common Issues to Flag

1. Slow specs: Using create when build works
2. Flaky specs: Time-dependent assertions
3. Brittle specs: Testing implementation details
4. Missing contexts: No error case testing
5. Over-mocking: Mocking the class under test
6. Under-mocking: Real HTTP calls in unit tests

Improvement Examples

When suggesting changes, show before/after:
